Big Success in a Small Package

Coleen Brennan, a local real estate agent, is at the top of the game in Newport Beach.

Don't let her 4-foot, 11-inch frame fool you, Coleen Brennan is a powerhouse of energy.

Brennan, a local real estate agent, has a drive and work ethic that has consistently put her in the top 1 to 2 percent within Prudential California Realty, where she has won gold and platinum awards. Last year, for instance, she worked 200 days straight before taking a day off.

“I work hard, enjoy what I do and the rest follows," Brennan said. "The awards are nice, but not my motivation.”

But Brennan didn't start out in real estate, or in Newport Beach.

Originally trained as a speech pathologist, Brennan lived and worked in the Boston area. She and her husband, Dave, moved west seeking career opportunities and a lifestyle change.

Their love of skiing brought them to Jackson Hole, Wyo., where they enjoyed the ski bum life. They took on a variety of part-time jobs, working occasionally as mountain guides. Brennan even worked as a swim instructor and a waitress for a time until receiving a grant to run a recreational facility.

Later they went to San Diego, where they managed a tennis and golf facility. From there, they settled in Salt Lake City, Utah. There Brennan returned to her original field and became director of the speech and hearing department of a medical facility. Then Brennan, looking for a little more excitement, jumped into the ski industry, which is how she ended up in Newport Beach where there was an opening for a sales representative. That job was fun for a while, but Brennan couldn't see herself doing it for the rest of her life.

Ultimately, Brennan went into real estate—a field that appealed to her creativity and love of design and architecture.

“I’m fascinated by homes and buildings," she said.

Not only did Brennan get her real estate license, but also her broker's license to sell boats. With Newport Harbor right here, it just made sense.

“I thought it would be compatible—yachts along with homes,” she said.

Doing what it takes to make sure the customer is satisfied is what it's all about for Brennan. And it doesn't hurt that she enjoys what she does.

“I love the job, the hunt, and helping to make people’s dreams come true," she said. “It’s like I’m on a safari every day
